Circle of Death is the second book in The Shadow series written by James Patterson. Brian Sitts is the co-author, and the novel is a departure from the usual Patterson fare as it features comic book-type heroes and comic book-type violence.
To recap what happened in the first book in the series: Not many people knew Lamont Cranston was the Shadow in the 1930s. Margo Lane, his great love, was one of the people in the know. Shiwan Khan, his fiercest enemy, was another. Khan was the last descendant of Genghis Khan. Of course, Khan is defeated.
The events in the current book happen in the future. After being cryogenically preserved, Lamont and Margo are brought back into the world by the Shadow’s great-great-great-great granddaughter Maddy. Lamont, Margo, and Maddy all have paranormal abilities which they will need to defeat a new nemesis. New York City in the late 21st century is recovering from Khan’s regime of anti-technology. But already there is a new threat known as the Command. The Command is led by the Destroyer of Worlds, and she is murdering innocent people all over the world. What will the Shadow do?
One of his first moves is to contact descendants of 1930s heroes. Perhaps if they all work together, they will be able to defeat the Destroyer. Their mission takes them all over the globe, meeting and working with people in the highest seats of power. Will they be tested beyond their limits, or will they secure justice?
If you like this sort of fiction, you will want to read this book from beginning to end in one sitting. If you think you will enjoy it, you should pick it up today! If you don’t like this type of novel, just wait. Patterson will have another book out before you know it.
