Ink Blood Sister Scribe, written by Emma Torzs, is a supernatural book based on magic and spells. It is the story of two sisters, their family’s collection of magical books, and the many secrets they cannot fathom.
In this novel, magic can be channeled through magical books. Some people can write the spells in the books; some people can read the spell into being. Some people can hear the magic humming in the books; some people can’t but they just might have other magical skills.
The book begins with the death of the family patriarch. His daughter Joanna finds him with a book in hand. He leaves a note behind: “I’m sorry. Don’t let your mother in. Keep this book safe and away from your blood….Tell Esther.” What can it mean? After his death, Joanna is charged with keeping her family’s collection of magical books safe. Even from her mother.
Her sister Esther left the family home, charged with being sure to move each November or face dire consequences. Someone may be hunting her. But this November she decided to stay in place. She will be found. Now what will she do?
But who is searching for her? Well, their family is not the only game in the world when it comes to magical collections. There is a scribe of spells named Nicholas who is the heir of an old family with a massive collection of their own. The spells he is writing must be written with his blood, and that supply is running perilously low. With no time for recovery between spells, he is becoming weak and sickly. The family must find another scribe.
