Bestselling author David Baldacci delivers another book in the Amos Decker “Memory Man” series in Long Shadows. Decker is a favorite character of mine, and this series continues to deliver plenty of action and twists.
FBI Consultant Amos Decker heads to Florida with his new partner Special Agent Frederica White where they will be investigating the murder of a federal judge and her bodyguard. The murders become a complex case as it’s uncertain whether there was one or more killers. It becomes even more complex when we find out that the bodyguard wasn’t actually guarding the judge—he was her lover.
In the midst of the investigation, Decker must also deal with the suicide of a former partner. For those of you who don’t know, Decker has amazing memory capabilities. His former partner was losing her memory to Alzheimer’s. She calls Decker before pulling the trigger because she knows he has his own baggage when it comes to memory. Complicating matters is the letter Decker received from a memory center telling him that his memory abilities could be changing.
Add to this mix the fact that Decker and his new partner have been sent to Florida to fail at solving the case. Why you ask? Decker is not easy to deal or work with, and his new partner is a black woman looking to move up the career ladder—much to the chagrin of higher-ups.
Secrets come to light from all directions. Characters are realistic, and the plot is full of turns, twists, and intrigue. I enjoyed the book. Check it out and see if you do.
