Out of Nowhere

If you are looking for a suspense novel with a bit of romance, you might consider Out of Nowhere written by bestselling author Sandra Brown.  A young mother and a successful business consultant are brought together when they are caught in a mass shooting.

Elle Portman is the young mother of two-year-old Charlie. She takes Charlie to the county fair for the afternoon. When Charlie begins to get fussy, Elle heads toward the exit only to hear shots ring out into the crowd. She loses control of Charlie’s stroller.

Calder Hudson is a successful business consultant who really doesn’t want to go to the county fair, but his reporter girlfriend has begged him to meet her there. He is headed in through the gate when he hears the shots. He shouts for everyone to get down and tries to stop the runaway stroller. He is shot and loses consciousness. He wakes in the hospital and finds out that he failed in his attempt to save the little boy.

Both Elle and Calder want justice. When police detectives tell them the shooter is still at large, they are shocked and angered. Five witnesses, including them, are questioned in an effort to determine how the shooter got away. It turns out the gun used in the shooting was left with the last victim, making him look like a shooter turned suicide.

While detectives investigate, witnesses are whisked away to a safe house that isn’t all that safe. The shooter strikes again. Elle and Calder are thrown together in an effort to stay safe. Romantic sparks begin to fly, but it this the best time to start a romance? Especially since Calder feels guilty about not being able to save Elle’s son?

This well-written suspense novel has characters that are realistic, vulnerable, and resilient. The plot is fast-moving with deception, romance, and dangerous situations. If that is the kind of book you are looking for, Out of Nowhere is an excellent one to check out.
