The latest entry in the Robert B. Parker’s Sunny Randall series is written by Mike Lupica. Revenge Tour is a well-written entry indeed.
Sunny’s absentee landlady is author Melanie Joan Hall. She asks for help from Sunny because someone has accused her of plagiarism. An anonymous note doesn’t threaten anything in particular—which may be even more worrisome than an actual threat. Events seem to point at Melanie’s ex-husband who is in prison. He is bent on revenge.
Sunny is dealing with another problem at the same time. She has to deal with a threat against her father from lawyer Joe Doyle. Sunny’s father was the cop who helped put Doyle’s son in prison. The son has died there, and the father is looking for revenge.
Working on two fronts is a challenge for Sunny. Adding more difficulty to the whole affair is the fact that much of Melanie’s past seems to be as made up as her novels are. Sunny visits another one of Melanie’s ex-husbands, ex-professor Charles Hall, who taught Melanie how to write but who now suffers from dementia. Charles mistakes Sunny for someone, but it’s unclear who that someone is.
Soon dead bodies are piling up, and Sunny needs to call in reinforcements. Making appearances from the Spenser series are Spenser and Hawk. Sunny’s friend Spike also helps out. Will they be able to find the answers before someone else dies?
Revenge is the topic all the way around. Mike Lupica has done a fine job with this entry into Parker’s series. Revenge Tour is a nice read. Check it out soon.
