The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

Wow! What a ride! The House Across the Lake, written by Riley Sager, is chock full of twists and turns. Sager proves himself a master of suspense once again.

Casey Fletcher grew up watching her actress mother dazzle audiences until she herself become an actress. While not a dazzler like her mother, Casey has carved out a career in acting. That changes when her husband dies by drowning, sending her into alcoholism. Her mother sends her off to the family vacation home where she spends her time drinking bourbon and spying on the neighbors across the lake.

Katherine and Tom Royce are those neighbors. Casey saves Katherine from drowning (a recurring theme) and befriends her. Tom and Katherine seem to be a perfect glamorous couple—Tom a tech mogul and Katherine a retired model. But all is not what it seems. Throw in a sexy handyman/neighbor in the form of Boone, and the twists begin.

Soon Katherine disappears, and Casey cannot keep herself from picking up those binoculars and spying on the house across the lake. She becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Katherine and if Tom is involved. Or maybe Boone is involved? As Casey tries to solve the mystery, she uncovers truths that seem unbelievable. How will it all end?
