If you are a fan of paranormal fiction, you should check out Charlaine Harris’s latest book in the Gunnie Rose series. The Serpent in Heaven is a quick read with fast pacing and a shift in main character. For those who have been following the series, Felicia becomes the main character in this volume. She is Gunnie (Lizbeth) Rose’s sister. Lizbeth and Eli are happily married and now living in Texoma.
Felicia is currently a student at the Grigori Rasputin school in San Diego in the Holy Russian Empire. She doesn’t command any respect and is treated as if she has no magical ability. Her purpose in San Diego is to be on call to give life-saving blood transfusions to the tsar who is hemophiliac. After all, she is a granddaughter of Rasputin’s. Felicia is living a pretty ordinary life. That is until she is kidnapped.
It turns out that Felicia is from a powerful magical family. When she is attacked, her own abilities come out, and she becomes a force to be reckoned with. She goes through a physical transformation as well as her deceased father’s spells begin to wear off. He had used anti-aging spells on her to make her look as if she was around ten or eleven. Now we see that she is actually fifteen. Her family wants Felicia back, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to get her.
There is a bit of a love story involved as her first love Peter becomes her confidant and co-conspirator. She also has an alliance with an older powerful grigori named Felix. Felicia’s life is changed before you know it.
If you have already been reading the Gunnie Rose series, you can jump right in with this book. If you haven’t been following the series, I recommend that you start with the first book in the series. The Serpent in Heaven is the fourth in the series. A fifth book will be coming out soon.
