Before and Again

Are you one of those people who have wished you could start all over? If so, Devon is just the town for you! You would be amazed at how many people in this town have left their former lives behind and are trying to create a new life for themselves.

Mackenzie Cooper had it all: a nice house, a wonderful husband, a beautiful daughter. Then a second of inattentiveness while driving wipes all of that out. Her daughter perishes in a car accident, and Mackenzie ends up divorced. She moves to Devon to start a new life. She reinvents herself as Maggie Reid. Almost no one knows of her past except her probation officer.

Things are going well for her until the day the son of her new friend Grace is charged with computer hacking. Maggie's probation officer doesn't want her to have anything to do with Grace or her son, but Maggie feels she can't abandon her friend. To top things off, Maggie's ex-husband moves to town after buying the inn where she works. Maggie must come to terms with her husband and with her past while helping Grace who has plenty of her own problems besides her son's arrest. It turns out Grace has reinvented herself as well! (As have some other minor characters!)

This is the first book by Delinsky that I have read, so I didn't know exactly what to expect. The writing was easy to follow. The characters have plenty of problems, but there is more hope than despair. This book gave me some things to ponder. And while it is not my usual cup of tea, it was a refreshing change.
