"Sometimes I Lie"

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

If you enjoy a quick read with lots of twists, this book is for you! Author Alice Feeney begins this book with a simple page that states "My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me: 1. I'm in a coma. 2. My husband doesn't love me anymore. 3. Sometimes I lie."

The truth in this page-turner is revealed bit by excruciating bit. I say excruciating because you so want to know what has really happened. Amber is trapped in a coma, with an active mind but an inactive body. She can hear those around her, but she can't move, not even to open her eyes. When she first becomes aware, she doesn't even remember what happened to her to put her into a coma. The plot moves us through three time periods: now, a week before, and a childhood revealed through a series of diaries.

Amber soon realizes she is in a coma after a serious accident. Just a week earlier, she was working for a radio chat show. Just a week earlier, she was beginning to question her husband's fidelity. Just a week earlier, she was concerned about her sister. But when she begins to remember the days leading up to her accident, she becomes sure that her husband doesn't love her anymore and he may have played a part in her "accident." And her sister may have, too. However, she is still in a coma, so what can she do? Someone knows what happened that night, and that person may be closer than you think and ready to strike again.

The diaries reveal some horrific events from her childhood. Just days before her accident, she is plotting against her boss. She tells us at the beginning that sometimes she lies. She gives us clues throughout the book, but we still have to discern the truth from the lies. And with a twist, everything you thought you knew is turned upside down. An outstanding read! I'm so looking forward to Alice Feeney's next book "Sometimes I Kill" due out next year.
